Cristiano Ronaldo is proof the Premier League needs a winter break

IF Sam Allardyce could wave a magic wand and change the nationality of one foreign player to English there’s a fair chance he would point it at Cristiano Ronaldo.

IDOL: Allardyce is a big fan of CR7
England’s new manager marvels at Ronaldo’s stamina, fitness – and talent.
The ex-Manchester United winger inspired Real Madrid and Portugal to Champions League and Euro 2016 triumphs this year.
And referring to one of his hobby horses, Allardyce points out Ronaldo, 31 does currently benefit from a winter break in Spain.
That’s something, of course, that Big Sam and the FA would like to see introduced in England.
“He plays 85 games a year. It’s a wonder he’s still alive!”

Allardyce says of Ronaldo: “He plays 85 games a year. It’s a wonder he’s still alive!
“He looks after himself so well. He plays that many games and hardly gets injured – he’s a phenomenal individual.
“He copes with that amount of work because of his physical and mental strength but he has a winter break too.
He did get injured in the final of the Euros but to see him crying when it happened to then laughing when they won was just great.”
It was 50 years ago yesterday that England won the World Cup.
So it’s almost appropriate that Sam Allardyce’s first match as England manager is a World Cup qualifier.
And if the ex-Sunderland boss becomes Sir Sam Allardyce one day, it probably means he’ll have emulated Sir Alf Ramsey’s currently unique achievement.
Wayne Rooney stages his testimonial match at Old Trafford on Wednesday against former clubEverton.
All proceeds go the Wayne Rooney Foundation, his charity with a £5million target to help children.
It’s also Jose Mourinho’s first home match as manager of Manchester United and he says: “Wayne IS and has been England’s best player for over a decade and this game will be a fitting tribute.
“I’m sure the fans will make it a memorable occasion.”
