Cristiano Ronaldo has assured his supporters that he will ‘come back even stronger’ for Real Madrid this season.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner was carried off on a stretcher in tears during Portugal’s successful Euro 2016 final victory over Spain earlier this month.
The 31-year-old, desperate to help his team-mates, showed his managerial instincts later in the game; barking tactical instructions to the rest of players alongside Portugal manager Fernando Santos on the sideline.
Reports in Spain claim that the 31-year-old suffered knee ligament damage as a result of an over-exuberant challenge from France’s Dimtri Payet, an injury that is likely to see him miss that start of Real Madrid’s domestic season.
‘Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank all my fans,’ Ronaldo said in a video on his Instagram account.
‘I wanted to tell them that all is well and that I will come back much stronger. Thank you, long live Portugal!’
